Hurricane Harvey brought destruction and devastation to the Coastal Bend.  A year later, Harvey brings jobs!  The Hurricane Harvey Relief Initiative is helping declared disaster counties recover.  Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend has teamed with Unique Employment Services to fill much needed jobs.

“For nearly a year, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend has made great strides in helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey gain employment and get their lives somewhat back to normal,” said Ken Treviño, President/CEO of Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend.

“As the Employer of Record for Workforce Solutions, Unique Employment Services has been filling jobs throughout the disaster area.  Being a Corpus Christi company since 1972, it’s important for us to help in the recovery of our community,” states Michelle Walsh, Staffing Manager of Unique Employment Services.

To be eligible for the Hurricane Harvey Relief Initiative, you must live in one of the declared disaster area counties of Aransas, Bee, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio or have been forced to relocate due to disaster or emergency events.  Requirements include:

  • Where you live
  • Whether you lost work, due to Hurricane Harvey
  • If you have been unemployed for 10 weeks or more

For employers, the Hurricane Harvey Relief Initiative will supplement their workforce with temporary workers to assist with clean-up, recovery and humanitarian efforts.  WFSCB has designated coordinators to provide immediate assistance to employers in identifying eligible positions.  Organizations eligible for these workers include:

  • Local city/county governments
  • Independent School Districts
  • Community-based organizations
  • Non-profit organizations

Keep Aransas County Beautiful, the History Center of Aransas County, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, and Unique Employment Services all came together as a shining example of the Relief Initiative.  Rosemary Pizio-White was named Executive Director of Keep Aransas County Beautiful through funds provided by the Relief Initiative. A dedicated and resourceful volunteer over the past two years, this position is her dream come true.  Ms. Pizio-White says, “I am so happy to now be able to live and work in Aransas County and in a field that I hold very dear.”  Working out of office space generously provided by the History Center, the organization is now able to be proactive in its mission to benefit all of Aransas County.

If you or someone you know who has been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, please pre-register for the 50+ open positions across the area.  According to Michelle Walsh of Unique Employment Services, “Many people think the relief effort is only about cleaning up streets and beaches.  While those jobs are needed too, we have open positions for administration, Parks and Recreation, and we offer training programs to prepare individuals for a variety of jobs.”  Individuals can pre-register here
